DECOMPRESSION/DISTRACTION

At Neck to Back Medical Clinic we use a technique known as Spinal Decompression and Distraction Therapy to treat disc injuries in the neck and lower back. This technique involves that the application of tension (traction) to the spine by a computer controlled mechanical device that allows us to widen the disc space without injury to the muscles that support the spine.

This widening is known as spinal distraction. As the disc space increases in volume the pressure inside of it falls. This is known as spinal decompression. When pressure inside the disc is less than the pressure outside, fluid and nutrients will flow into the disc. This inflow of fluid and nutrients will permit the disc to heal. The treatment is virtually painless and requires no needles, surgery, or drugs.
